The Costa Luminosa will join Carnival Cruise Line’s fleet and will be renamed the Carnival Luminosa when it starts seasonal Australia cruises from Brisbane this November.
After completing its season in Australia, the Luminosa will reposition to Seattle and sail Alaska cruises from May through September 2023. Then the ship will return to Brisbane.
Carnival Corp., the parent company of Costa Cruises and Carnival, had previously said the Costa Magica would join Carnival’s fleet. The Magica will now remain at Costa.
Carnival said the Luminosa will undergo “modest updates” to prepare the ship for Carnival’s fleet, but it initially won’t have all of the Funship 2.0 spaces that are on other Carnival ships. Carnival 2.0 spaces include Guy’s Burger Joint, the BlueIguana Cantina, the RedFrog Rum Bar and Italian restaurant Cucina del Capitano.
Australia itineraries will be announced shortly, Carnival said.
The Luminosa is a hybrid of Carnival’s Spirit class and Holland America Line’s Vista class. The ship entered service in 2009 and accommodates 2,826 guests at double occupancy.
