Frontier Airlines is resuming flights from Fort Lauderdale

Frontier Airlines will resume service to Fort Lauderdale in February, offering 12 routes, including eight that are year-round and four that are seasonal.

The discount carrier, which operates a base in nearby Miami, is returning to Fort Lauderdale for this first time since it suspended service at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Frontier will fly daily and year-round from Fort Lauderdale to Atlanta; Buffalo, N.Y.; Islip, N.Y. (on Long Island); Orlando; Philadelphia; Providence, R.I.; and Trenton, N.J. The carrier will also fly Fort Lauderdale to Stewart Airport near Newburgh, N.Y., year-round, three times per week. In addition, Frontier will offer seasonal, less than weekly, service from Fort Lauderdale to Portland, Maine; Green Bay, Wis.; and Albany and Rochester, N.Y.

Cancun, Puerto Rico flights

Service for all of those routes begins between Feb. 17 and Feb. 19. They are among 18 routes announced by the carrier Tuesday. Other routes include three to Cancun, two to San Juan and and a new destination: Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Thrice-weekly service between the Puerto Rican city and Orlando begins March 24.

The resumption of Fort Lauderdale service will beef up Frontier’s South Florida offering. This winter the carrier will serve 36 destinations from Miami and five cities from West Palm Beach, according to Cirium flight schedule data.
