JetBlue has set summer launch dates for its long-planned Boston-London service.
Daily service between Boston and London Gatwick will begin July 19. The carrier will follow with a daily Boston-London Heathrow flight on Aug. 22. Tickets for both routes are now on sale.
JetBlue first announced its intent to fly to London from New York and Boston in 2019. Both plans were delayed by the pandemic, but the carrier began flights between New York JFK and both Gatwick and Heathrow last summer.
The dual-airport strategy in London has worked, JetBlue CEO Robin Hayes said on Tuesday. He noted that JetBlue will now become the only airline offering flights from Boston to both Heathrow and Gatwick.
“Our London service has been an incredible success so far, and we’ve been able to go in with our unbeatable JetBlue service and experience and bring down fares on a traditionally overpriced route – the JetBlue Effect in action,” Hayes said.
JetBlue will serve the Boston-London routes on Airbus A321LR narrowbody aircraft configured with 24 Mint business-class seats and 114 coach seats.
The carrier will compete against United, Virgin Atlantic, Delta, British Airways and American on Boston-Heathrow service and will be the only airline flying Boston-Gatwick.
JetBlue’s transatlantic routes are not part of its Northeast Alliance with American Airlines.
The carrier is selling introductory fares from Boston to Gatwick starting at $499 roundtrip and introductory Mint fares starting at $1,949. Introductory Heathrow fares are on sale starting at $549 in coach and $1,999 in Mint.
