But not enough to escape your own thoughts. One of the things you struggle with is whether you should leave or stay at the college. On the one hand, youre a young man with a great passion for literature, music, and science. These are the things which you would imagine are in high demand in the modern world. Moreover, you already consider yourself a successful writer, having released three books over the past ten years, and being the Director of the Faculty of Science and Letters. So theres clearly a demand for the likes of you. The problem is that you also know that the college isnt well off, in fact, its barely earning enough money to pay the rent, and theres been talk about shutting it down. However, that means your books and manuscripts would fall into obscurity if the college no longer sold them and no money would be made if you resigned. In any case, if you decide to stay put, youre going to have to do it voluntarily. The college may close down if you go, but theres no way youre going to resign. At 34, youre starting to feel the effects of your lifestyle. You feel as if youre wasting your life and have no real aim in life as youve only lately realized. In all honesty though, your life has changed no more than anyone elses after their 30s. Youve decided you should at the very least start trying to be more active in the world around you and you cant do that if you remain in your room all day reading about medieval knights. You realize that one of the reasons youre even writing these books is because you felt a great hunger for knowledge which you felt you had only just begun to satisfy. Lastly, youre starting to feel a little sorry for the college. You can see them struggling to provide the best for the students here. However, they also have no idea of what may come, and as your books have been very successful, they also have no idea of what to do next. Of course, they have the financial means to allow them to do a lot of things now, but if the college closes down and no new students come in then they may be in severe financial straits. All that really matters is your own desires. There is much evidence to suggest that leaving the college is right, and leaving the college is also right if you leave the college for a time; but is staying is right also if you stay. You wake up to the sound of a loud alarm clock, but as you stare at the clock, you notice something else. You look down at your packed bag and you see your three books, as well as some.
