Brits heading on holiday this winter should watch their behaviour at the airport to avoid missing out on their trip.

Many travellers love to sink a pint or two in the many restaurants and bars near their boarding gate before heading to sit on the plane.

Choruses of “it’s five o’clock somewhere” can be heard ringing out across the terminal whether its 7am or midnight.

However, London Stansted has warned passengers that they will be barred from their flight if they are “deemed unfit” by crew after indulging in the departure lounge.

The airport wrote about the One Too Many Campaign on Twitter.

It noted: “Did you know that if you are deemed unfit to fly, you may be denied boarding and you could face up to two years in jail for disrupting a flight?"

The scheme tackles the one in 640,000 passengers who disrupt the airline industry after having too much to drink.

The UK aviation industry code of practice takes a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive behaviour.

If you’re deemed unfit to fly you can be denied boarding.

If you disrupt a flight while in the air you could face up to two years in prison.

Those who delay a flight from taking off may be fined £5,000.

Meanwhile those who cause a mid-air incident can be handed up to £80,000 in fees for the diversion- and anyone who caused a flight to be cancelled can face a complete airline ban.

A number of drunken passengers have caused problems on planes over the years.

Drunk mum, Lyndsey Fitzsimmons, avoided jail earlier this year despite downing two pints of lager and abusing passengers and crew on a Ryanair flight.

However, Ali Ozdemir was given a sentence after getting drunk and throwing up on himself on a Jet2 flight.

He had been consuming alcohol at the airport before boarding the plane and was found slumped position with his own vomit covering himself and the adjacent seating.
