Last week, brand new concept art and models were revealed at Disney’s D23 Expo detailing the renovation of classic water ride Splash Mountain.

Splash Mountain – based at both Disneyland California and Walt Disney World in Orlando – currently involves a log flume with several drops, music and characters from the 1946 Disney film Song of the South.

Woodland creatures and animatronics fill the inside of a giant faux- American landscape, but the film has come under fire for having controversial portrayals of African American people.

Now, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D'Amaro has revealed brand new concept art to fans at the expo showing what the ride will look like after renovation.

He showed that Splash Mountain would be renovated and remade as an homage to Tiana from the Princess and the Frog.

Splash Mountain will be transformed into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure which will light up with phosphorescent details and magical, coloured fog at night.

Guests will go along with Princess Tiana on a journey through the wilds of New Orleans as she tracks down an ingredient for her restaurant’s latest party.

Imagineers joined D'Amaro onstage to discuss new story details for Tiana's Bayou Adventure, coming to Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort in late 2024.

Several members of the original film cast will return to lend their voices to the attraction, including Anika Noni Rose as Tiana, Bruno Campos as Naveen, Michael-Leon Wooley as Louis and Jenifer Lewis as Mama Odie.

The rides at Magic Kingdom and Disneyland will also unveil a new outfit for Tiana that Imagineers say is historically accurate and authentic to the character.

Guests will enjoy a musical adventure, encounter favourite characters from the show and learn more about Tiana’s life after the end of her film The Princess and the Frog.

And, an all new Princess and the Frog retail option will also come to the parks – Eudora’s ChicBoutique featuring Tiana’s Gourmet Secrets will hit `New Orleans Square in Disneyland this year.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure wasn’t the only exciting Disney news revealed at the expo – and D’Amaro claimed that three new Frozen themed lands would open around the world in coming years.

And, TRON Lightcycle would finally be available to riders in 2023.

And, the next major milestone in EPCOT's multi-year transformation will include the completion of the World Celebration neighbourhood in late 2023.

Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana will also open in late 2023, inviting guests to follow the story of water on the planet, inspired by Moana's connection to the ocean.
