‘Trendy’ city is the best destination for working British expats in Spain

Spain is a top destination for British expats but while many Britons flock to the country’s coast, it’s a city that’s been named the best spot for those working abroad.

According to experts at Iglu Cruise, Madrid is the best city in Spain for British expats who want to work away from home. The city has fast internet and Airbnbs for less than £100 per night.

An Iglu Cruise spokesperson said: “Located in central Spain, Madrid is bustling with trendy cafes, independent shops and of course, amazing tapas!

“There are plenty of activities to do, the Royal Palace and Retiro Park are just a few of the famous tourist attractions to visit.

“Shopping on Gran Via is also recommended for those visiting the city. The world famous Prado Museum can also be found in the capital, along with Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.”

The Spanish capital isn’t the most visited city in Spain, that title is held by Barcelona, the country’s second city. However, there’s plenty to explore.

The Prado Museum is Madrid’s top rated attraction on Tripadvisor and holds one of the world’s largest art collections.

A tourist ‘Alexander H’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “It’s a world class art museum. If you don’t like Spanish art, this probably isn’t the place for you but if seeing Velaquez or Goya interests you, then this is a must visit.”

Plaza Mayor is the heart of the city and a hub for cafes, bars and restaurants. However, tourists will find better prices exploring one of the city’s side streets.

At Retiro Park, tourists will find a whopping 15,000 trees, and can even take a rowing boat out on the lake. It’s a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Inside the park, tourists will also find the Crystal Palace, a striking glass structure designed by Ricardo Velaquez Bosco.

If Madrid doesn’t feel quite right, why not take a look at some of the best places in Spain to buy a holiday home?

According to the Iglu experts, the best city for working expats in Europe is Bucharest, often known as an ‘Affordable Little Paris’.

But not everywhere got such a ringing endorsement from expats, one European country was recently ranked as one of the worst destinations for Britons.
